The Annapolis Up Rigging Maritime Festival will be held at City Dock May 13 – 15 with several sailing vessels participating.
“Annapolis is a sailing town,” said Mayor Gavin Buckley. “Our proximity to the Chesapeake Bay – one of the best sailing destinations in the world – is a great reason to host this event, but even more important is the role that maritime heritage plays in our food, art, heritage and culture. This event will be a celebration of Annapolis as much as a celebration of sailing
Some of the vessels will be available for sails/tours.
“Annapolis has deep roots connected to the water. Local waterways including Spa Creek, the Severn River, and the Chesapeake Bay provide transportation, recreation, and seafood,” according to the festival’s website. “The water inspires our food, arts, heritage, and culture. As a port city since colonial times, our maritime history has a wide range of stories. This event will highlight some of the historic boats that worked or played on the waters of the region.”
“The weekend will also include live music at Susan Campbell Park all three days as well as a maritime festival on Saturday and Sunday in the City Dock parking lot between the Harbormaster’s office and the park,” according to a press release from the city of Annapolis. “Admission is free for all events”
Those attending the event are encouraged to enjoy discounted parking at Park Place Garage (3 Park Place) or the Calvert Street Parking Garage (19 St. Johns Street) and take the free shuttle to City Dock. Additional paid parking with free shuttles to the City Dock are available at Gotts Court Parking Garage, Whitmore Parking Garage, Knighton Parking Garage and West Garrett Parking Garage.
